Below are pictures taken from inside the new Bellingham Library located at the back of the Hall. There are already good comments regarding its efficient layout, freshly painted walls, functional IT Suite and accessibility compared to its last location.
We are developing a closer working relationship with the village with examples including a history talk at the start of the year.
Integrating Bellingham Library into the Hall was managed by Northumberland County Council representatives with piecemeal negotiations with Bellingham Town Hall Chair Edwin Wilkinson that would be beneficial to the Council’s spending programme.
The Committee agreed that progress would be sought in making regular use of the Hall and therefore providing a steady revenue stream.
Lesley Archer has already provided a stellar service to the village seeking out specific reads for Bellingham and District bookworms as well as being informative towards the many varied requirements in using the Internet, Office programs and the odd bit of advice regarding job searching, sourcing information and the already late homework!
Both Edwin and Councilor John Riddle share optimism in the initiative between the local service in cohesion with a community building – some may say this is relative of the idea of ‘Localism’ or to be more specific it is in the interest of the public for the benefit of the public.

Town Hall Garden
Among the glories of the town hall are the beautiful gardens, set off by the proudly fluttering Northumbrian flag. The gardens are lovingly tended by Edwin and Pat Wilkinson, who spend many, many hours digging, weeding, and planting to maintain a glorious wealth of colour all the year round, providing a warm welcome to the village.
Standing proudly in the garden of the town hall is the poignant silhouette of a First World War soldier, with head bowed, erected as a tribute not only to all those who died in the Great War, but also those who gave their lives in other wars and conflicts over the years.
Made by the charity There But Not There, the Tommy silhouette – one of a chain across the country – was erected to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the Great War, and will later be moved to the village war memorial, which is the lych gate at the cemetery.
